Vineet Nayar on Achieving Success by Putting Employees First, Customers Second

Nelson Mandella, Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr. They all had something in common: the ability to inspire people and make them want to change. Vineet Nayar looks to them as an example of how to effectively manage a company, by inspiring and listening to the employees and making them the priority. That way managing people becomes less about directing them in what to do and more about motivating them to make their own decisions.

Vineet Nayar is CEO and Board Director of HCL Technologies Limited, one of the world’s fastest growing information technology services companies with over 55,000 employees spread across 26 countries. Vineet joined HCL in 1985 after earning his MBA from XLRI, one of the leading business management schools in Asia. In 1993, he started his own company, Comnet, where he pioneered the innovative management practice, “Employee First, Customer Second” (EFCS) which is now taught at Harvard Business School. He’s the author of a new book, Employees First, Customers Second: Turning Conventional Management Upside Down.
